Years ago I did a feature story on “chronic loneliness” — a condition had recently been included in the Diagnostic Manual of Statistical and Mental Disorders. I interviewed a woman who’d written a whole book about it — one of those memoir/sociological non-fiction books about her own experience as a chronic lonely person over most of her adult life.
