one-to-one hypnotherapy & coaching
how it works, what it costs and why you have nothing to fear... this is not a sales pitch!
In recent days my inbox has been inundated by readers all on both sides of the Atlantic asking about how my hypnotherapy practice works, what a session costs, etc. I’ve tried to answer all the most common questions in this post and will publish it on Juvenescence under the “Private Hypnotherapy” section.
Please note: This is not a sales pitch! Feel free to ignore this newsletter if you have no interest in hypnotherapy or booking a private session with me now or ever! I really don’t mind! Scroll on! I will shut up about hypnotherapy after this for a while, I swear!
All the information is below if you’re interested in booking a session. I’m feeling happy and a bit over-whelmed by the positive response and embarrassed for not being a more professional person with a website, etc. Anyway, hope this helps.
Welcome to my shed!
I am now taking private booking for one-on-one private hypnotherapy and coaching sessions in my garden shed in Kensal Rise, North West London.
Earlier this year, after twenty-five years of working as a journalist and author, I added another string to my bow by qualifying as a hypnotist and cognitive behavioural therapist with the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy (recognised by the British Psychological Association). You can read more on the story of how I came to the practice here.
Sessions can be conducted in-person or remotely via Zoom. You can book by emailing me directly at leahkmclaren@gmail.com .
If you have questions or concerns or just want to have a quick preliminary chat before committing to a session, drop me a line — I’m happy to hop on a call anytime free of charge.
An in-person session consists of the following:
Fifty-minute one-on-one consultation.
Twenty-thirty minute hypnotherapy session on my cosy day-bed during which I will simply guide you through a process of deep relaxation, not unlike a guided meditation if you’ve ever done one. Once you are fully relaxed and receptive, I will have a little chat with your unconscious, in-putting positive suggestions with a view to changing your day-to-day life in accordance with your wishes and desires. Please note that even when you are “under hypnosis” you will remain completely in control of your body and mind and will remain aware of what I am saying. You can stop or start the session at any point. The main thing is that you are comfortable and that we are able to establish a trust and rapport.
The talking portion will be followed by a 20-minute personalised audio file targeted to your specific needs and goals which I will send to you via email and/or WhatsApp (in the following 1-2 days), which you can listen to as little or often as you like. Most of my clients find the audio very soothing to listen to in bed just before falling to sleep.
A check in by email the following two-weeks and a follow-up phone chat (at your request). I welcome all constructive feedback will happily tweak the audio and send you a revised file according to your wishes.
Zoom sessions follow the same process with a slightly longer talking portion and the hypnosis conducted remotely via the audio file. I have hypnotised clients via live Zoom link with decent results, but in my experience the audio files are far more intimate and effective in the long run. If you really, really want to be hypnotised live via Zoom, we can discuss. I’m open to trying if you are!
The aim of the consultation/chat portion of the session is to establish a rapport and foundation of trust between the two of us — as client and hypnotherapist. We’ll get to know each other a bit and talk over your issues and any specific habits or lifestyle issues you’d like to focus on changing. These issues can be as vague (anxiety, dread, procrastination) or as specific as you like (compulsive nail-biting, over-eating, etc).
As a hypotherapist and coach I am not trying to draw you out or excavate your buried trauma or secrets — you can tell me as much or as little about yourself as you want. You can cry. You can joke around. It’s your time and I will listen without judgement. My job is simply to try to understand what is hampering and holding you back, with a view to effecting positive and tangible lifestyle change through the process of therapeutic hypnosis.
Needless to say, these sessions are strictly confidential and privileged. What’s said in the shed, stays in the shed.
Common target issues include:
a) Increasing self-esteem and confidence
b) Boosting relaxation and better sleep
c) Reducing stress, anxiety and negative thinking
d) Increasing creativity, energy and productivity
c) Decreasing dependence on crutches (drink, drugs, nicotine and junk food)
d) Fixing relationship issues
e) Overcoming trauma and grief
f) Enhancing performance in various arenas of life (exams, interviews, sport, entertainment, business and sex)
g) Chronic pain management (IBS, back-pain, shoulder pain, headaches, etc.)
So that’s the hypno-rub!
My practice is filling up quickly so do get in touch if you’re curious. I am trying to limit the number of clients I take on as I have several other writing projects in the works with deadlines looming. No pressure obviously.
One project I’m particularly excited about at the moment is a book on the mysterious power of the human unconscious, which I am co-authoring with my mentor, therapist and friend, the legendary Tim Smale, who recently topped The Evening Standard’s list of London’s Top Hypnotherapists.
In addition to being a super-modest, down-to-earth guy, Tim is a master of therapeutic hypnotherapy and I am learning more from him in person than I could from reading every hypnotherapy text book on the planet. He’s been in private practice for over thirty years and treats a long list of celebrity clients including professional athletes, politicians, Oscar-winning actors and pop stars. He also helped me immeasurably — with just three sessions — during the bleakest, most chaotic winter of my life. I am so grateful to have met him and excited about where it’s led me.
Come join me for a session in the shed! Relax completely and let your unconscious do all the hard work. There’s nothing to be afraid of — I promise. Hypnosis is basically meditation for lazy people who can’t be bothered.
