Ah, the remarkable Margaret Atwood. I was fortunate to have dinner at her home more than once while working for the estimable Marcel Masse. Also, in Paris, I was a guest at a dinner for Ms. Atwood and Mavis Gallant. Somewhere in my journals I have a record of that evening where unexpected things happened.
I like to say "My wife and I had dinner with MA" but in truth she and GG were a table over in the same Glasgow restaurant, and I think we were the only ones there who knew who they were. I introduced my daughter to MA's writing during a particularly difficult time, and that relationship has endured and they have since met. MA is always so cagey and wise in her comments.
This was lovely .. when I worked at the ROM, Margaret Atwood was a regular at a Bloor street restaurant with a lovely patio. A few of us from the ROM used to go there for lunch on the summer in the hope of seeing her .. and we did. She's definitely one of our National Treasures but I bet she'd shudder to hear herself described that way . Lol.. Xox
Lucky you for having met her! I waited patiently, amongst several grey hairs, for a chance viewing at an Oak Bay art gallery a few summers ago. We all traded updates on her potential appearance by consulting our devices, only to be eventually disappointed with news she was at the airport. I still recall the collective shrug like a barometric shift. How lucky are we all for sharing this planet with such a spirit as Ms.Atwood.

Nodding along :) And smiling...
What a pleasure.

I can’t believe I’m reading this! What a delight. This is a ripe berry patch of an interview. Thank you both.
