Reason and feeling are of a piece, as you say, there is no schism. However the experience of life is like a roulette wheel and equally if not more unpredictable, Mostly, in life, it's a case of putting back the pieces, weeping a little and carrying on.
Agree on the Moonstruck one. The combination of the late Norman Jewison’s directing and John Patrick Shanley’s writing created something magical.
When Norman passed in Jan of this year at the age of 97, John was interviewed and when he asked was there something Norman did or said in particular that made Moonstruck what it was, he replied:
“He just allowed himself to have a really good time. What I mean by that is, for instance, Cher used to complain because he would ruin takes by laughing! He was the best audience for the actors and for the script. I think he communicated his exuberance to them.”
Give yourself permission to have a really good time. Your own pleasure is important. Think, like Norman, you’re on to something there Leah.
A wonderful and wondrous list Leah! I absolutely concur with items 4, 9, and 30. I used to encourage my students in grade 7 english class to make lists because I make lists all the time. Not the to do kind but the self reflective what stage am I at what should I be next kind of list. Interestingly since about age 30 my lifemeaning lists have become way shorter: Like a stove top reduction that enhances flavour. Keep your life on slow simmer may be a good bumper sticker.
I read somewhere once that the key to happiness is to take your “to do” list and cut it in half. I suspect you understood this intuitively and this is why your lists are shorter
"Love don't make things nice. It ruins everything. It breaks your heart. It makes things a mess. We aren't here to make things perfect. The snowflakes are perfect. The stars are perfect. Not us. Not us! We are here to ruin ourselves and to break our hearts and love the wrong people and die."
So much wisdom! And I HAVEN’T SEEN MOONSTRUCK!!
And really should we not buy expensive night cream?
Foot cream is better and cheaper and does the same job. As for Moonstruck-- I envy you. Let me know what you think! x
wonderful quirky but true advice as always. P'd add never too late to fall in love - I'm over 80 and adore a a senior with a wonderful smile.
This makes my heart sing! And yes of course it’s never ever too late!
